Well, it seems like Spring is finally here. I have been out photographing to my heart's content - although I love photographing all of the seasons in the midwest, there is no doubt that Spring is my favorite. New Life is all around us and it's exciting to be in it, watching, photographing and feeling the dewiness of the ground and smelling the freshness of new growth.
I say good bye to winter until next year with a photograph of an unlikely bird to make it to a newsletter, the grackle. Though most people don't consider this bird to be all that beautiful, I really wanted to show you that they are indeed pretty! The composition was fun first of all but look further to see all of the color and detail in his feathers. His eye is also unbelievably yellow! I think he is quite handsome!
Then onto some Spring blooms! .. This morning the scilla were in bloom and the bloodroot in pre-bloom. A few hours later (when the sun was too harsh for nice photos) the bloodroot were in full bloom! I like them as abstracts in their pre-bloom though too. A shallow depth of field in both of these floral photographs gave way to pretty abstracts - enjoy the pattern of colors and shapes!

.. Upcoming newsletters : I have been photographing on the Mississippi River too - the pelicans are migrating north along with many other water birds. I plan another shoot (providing they are still there) early next week and I will plan to send a pelican newsletter after that.. Look for it soon! - Also, still working on images to share to show you my new gallery up in Cable.

Grackles are not usually considered to be one of the more "desirable" birds to look at. I hope that this photo helps to discourage that opinion - I enjoyed watching the grackles in the snow. This composition makes this bird as art. When the sun shines onto the black feathers of the grackle, we also see that the feathers are Iridescent and full of a wide spectrum of color!
