Dear ##SubscriberName##,

I arrived at the Cable Nature Lodge on Wednesday, April 9 to work with Bill Brakken (owner of the Lodge and the first owner of an exclusive Kristen Westlake Gallery Franchise. I finished stretching images on canvas and then together we set the scene. I arranged the images (25 total of the 20 x 30" - 30 x 40" and 40 x 60" fine art canvas images) in the gallery walls. Wow! It's spectacular to see the result and I will be sharing some images and a utube video in a following newsletter.

This newsletter embraces stories and nature photography from a shoot that I went on yesterday. Copper Falls State Park was beautiful and I thoroughly enjoyed snow shoeing through the deep snow that we got in the time that I have been here. Thursday night after an opening gallery event hosting the Chamber of Commerce, the snow came. We had over a foot of snow ... but wow, did it give me the gift of some beautiful scenery yesterday! .. Now Spring can come any time!

Enjoy!
Yours in Nature,
Kristen

Copper Falls Waterfall, near Mellen, WI. The colors that play in this quick moving water are spectacular! I set my camera and 80 - 400 mm lens on a tripod and using a slow shutter speed captured the silky effect that you see here. I love the abstract effect and each frame produced a different art effect, dependent entirely upon Nature in the moment that the shutter clicked.
I hiked into Copper Falls State Park on April 12, 2008 with snow shoes. A foot and a half of snow that came in to the area between Friday and ended just before I arrived made trekking tough but FUN! I am thankful as a Nature Photographer that I am also an athlete. Having been a runner since I was 15 it certainly makes trekking with gear enjoyable! This day I stumbled into snow that was waist deep, depending upon the drifts. The park does a circle around the waterfalls. This scenic was made from one of the overlooks. The photos from days like this are especially satisfying as the experience embraces and combines athleticism, the sounds of only nature & my own breath & snow shoes, hours of SEEING & making compositions, and the quietness of my mind (just simply being present).
April 12, 2008 brought me snow shoeing into Copper Falls State Park. It was the perfect day to be here. The blizzard that Northern Wisconsin received Thursday night through earlier this very morning made for scenic pictures as the snow clung to pine needles. In Copper Falls State Park the topography and abundance of Evergreen gave me hours to hike and compose. Actually I lost all track of time. I stumbled back to my car to find out that I had been hiking and composing for nearly 7 hours ( I honestly felt it was only a few!).
Copper Falls State Park - Mellen, WI. While I was snow shoeing through the park I happened upon a lovely scene of this deer jumping to reach leaves in a tree. Her head was covered in the fresh snow and she kept knocking more snow down upon herself as she leapt. She looked at me but didn't seem to mind my presence and I followed closely behind her as she lead me to the rest of her herd. They were laying in the snow and again, simply accepted me as I sat with them. I crawled across snowy envelopes where deer had laid and remarked at the shedded bristly hair that they leave behind. What a rare treat and such an honor to be allowed to mingle with this herd as they rested and shut their eyes right in front of my own eyes.
