CALIFORNIA - Limited Edition Giclee Fine Art Prints on Canvas
| coastal landscapes and waterscapes, mountains and sky
I caught the sunset north of Malibu and El Matador as I drove up the 1 to explore the beach front. The rocks here with the cormorants were amazing as I softened the water with a slow shutter speed. This image is composited which is something I normally do not do a lot of. I combined two images to get the effect you see here.
Sunset and Waves on the shoreline of Malibu California.
A softly blurred image on top of a sharp image created this effect with the shorebird. The colors and the lines in the waves were what drew my attention to the peice but the shorebird is what gives strength to the composition.
San Diego's Ocean Beach is quiet at 4:30 am. Though California is known for sunsets I love the moonrise and the colors that the pre-dawn casts on the ocean.
This group of Brown Pelicans posed for me for hours. Notice the red bright red gular pouch of the breeding male (3rd bird in).
This large seabird has a wingspan over 7 feet wide. The California race of the brown pelican holds endangered species status, due largely to predation in the early 1900s and to decades of poor reproduction caused by DDT poisoning.
Cormorants at El Matador, north of Malibu, CA. Normally we think of the West Coast as having spectacular sunsets. I am here to tell you that the sunrises, depending upon where you are able to position yourself can be incredible! Pictures don't lie. We had some great cloud coverage when I was out here this January 2009 which makes for more drama and color. I enjoyed the sound of the crashing waves and the chill as the water swelled around my toes and sometimes my ankles ( when I was paying more attention to the scenery than I was to the personality of the waves).
