| Fine Art Portfolio of birds. Includes songbirds, herons, raptors and more!
Cedar Waxwing feeding juvenile. I saw the waxwings the day before after photographing the icy shores of the North Shore Minnesota on Lake Superior. This day I was delighted to have the waxwings hang out awhile. I was further delighted to see that though each bird was certainly enjoying the berries for him or herself, they were feeding the juveniles as well.
Male Cedar Waxwing eating berries, Minnesota North Lake Shore at Lake Superior's Gooseberry Falls State Park.
Cedar Waxwing loving the red berries at the trees along the shore of Lake Superior, Minnesota.
Four exposures done in camera of Trumpeter Swans in Monticello, Minnesota.
Swan Park, Monticello, MN. The swans were congregated closely. I was happy to make this angelic image of one swan who distanced himself a bit from the "pack".

The sky was gray for most of the time I spent photographing swans in Monticello, making photography with pretty colors challenging. However, I tend to appreciate white birds against white skies so I focused on flight images with a bright sky. I loved the result of this artistic image. The juvenile swans with their darker heads and bodies give more texture to the image of these "flying angels".

Great Egret on nest in an Illinois Rookery.

This short eared owl surprised me in Horicon Marsh. An unusual time for him to be here, the end of May 2006. He landed in this pile of brush and the colors of the foliage and the sky tangled by the brush gave incredible background to the intensity of his stare.
Though the day looks as if it were a gorgeous summer day, it was a gorgeous very cold winter day. I was ready to head indoors with frozen fingers, toes and jackfrost biting at my nose. Then I saw her. The female cardinal sat and just looked at me while I spent all kinds of time photographing her. Notice all of the color detail in the female. While the males are a gorgeous red I am very taken with all the spectacular detail to color in the female cardinal.
Photographic Painting. I rarely like to get creative beyond the norms of the "digital darkroom" applied to my in the field creativity with camera, lens and experiences, as I like to show what I see and only that. However this image is one of those times when I made use of my digital darkroom to create & add a more "painterly" feel to the photograph. The grasses were blurred and the reflection of the swan's heads was exaggerated. This finished image expresses the peace I felt as soon as I entered Bong Recreational Area, near Kenosha, WI. bird photography online
I sit for hours with these birds in the wild and soon they recognize me and accept me as simply a part of their world.
Here are some interesting from Cornell's website. The great egret nests in colonies with other species, in shrubs and trees over water, and on islands.
*Great egrets feed in a variety of wetlands, including marshes, swamps, streams, rivers, ponds, lakes, tide flats, canals, and flooded fields. The longevity record for a wild Great Egret is nearly 23 years!

I was in Sanibel and came across a flock of terns and gulls resting on the beach, facing into the sun. I laid on my belly in their outer circle. I photographed bu spent much of my time just simply observing - I was so close and could see the details in the many species before me. Their eyes were beautiful and the colors and texture of their feathers diverse and spectacular. After about an hour of being engrossed into my surroundings I turned to see that I was now in the center of their circle! I had become one with these beautiful creatures!

The American White Pelican migrates through the Mississippi flyway each Spring. They are amazing to watch as they often fly in beautiful formation, such as you see here. I was fortunate to make this image as it worked out, wing positions just right, eye positions just right, and even the shadow of the second pelican's wing on the first bird. The American White Pelican has a breeding bump on his bill and beautiful plumage during the breeding season. You will not see this bump in a non-breeding bird or non - breeding season. I am often amazed at the sounds of birds. I love to listen but I don't often associate what I hear with what I would think the bird would sound like. The American White Pelican sounds like, "croak, croak, croak."
