Along Lock & Dam #13 of the Mississippi River the American White Pelicans are migrating up the river. The pelicans are in breeding plumage at this time of the year and the raised bump on the top of the beak is only present during the breeding season. The pelicans are beautiful in flight and even more spectacular now in breeding season. The pelican feathers in this photo flew towards me and then to a slight angle I made this artistic image of the group. The black flight feathers against the rest of the white plumage makes a dramatic pattern especially with this group in flight. The background - trees, set to a buttery blur as I panned to meet the speed of the pelicans.
