Dear ##SubscriberName##,

This was one of many eagles in Prairie du Sac, winter 2006. The coldest days brought the eagles to the lock and dam areas where the only open water brought promise of fish dinners to the majestic birds. This eagle is an immature bald eagle. Bald eagles aquire the white feathers on their heads after approximately five years of age.
The ice had started to break up as the day warmed quickly on the Mississippi. This bald eagle makes his landing on the breaking clusters of ice. At dawn the ice heralded hundreds of eagles but by mid morning the warmth of the day broke the ice and the eagles scattered to more secluded areas of open water to fish.

Enjoy!
Yours in Nature,
Kristen
